Krav Maga
A system of self defence that is both easy to learn and that does not require years of practice or masses of muscle to gain proficiency.

Krav Maga Instructor Mentor Scheme
Within Krav Maga today, we see many organisations that simply qualify attendees with limited martial arts background as instructors, after paying a hefty course fee & or signing up to a restrictive franchise agreement before attending anything from a 5 day to a 24 day instructor course with strict restrictions on when, how, or if, they may grade students afterwards.
This however is not how we operate as we follow a more traditional path …Lets explain..
Within martial arts, we tend to see a different approach than the tightly controlled & heavily franchised model than the one described above. Firstly, talent is recognised & nurtured within the school itself, with only the most able students having reached an appropriate grade being allowed to teach under the watchful eye of the school's chief instructor, before then being allowed to set up affiliated but nonetheless independent school/s.
The new instructor's school is then deemed an independent entity with any fees being paid to the mother school for further training, marketing & logistical support with school owners given more freedom in regards to grading testing, & more say in who they feel should become representative instructors of their school going forward.
This then, is the instructor model we follow and is an ideal opportunity for any aspiring KM student instructor to gain valuable experience from a highly experienced & qualified Krav Maga school & to benefit from a career & skills development plan.
This scheme also gives a valuable insight into the KM instructing community & allows candidates to progress as far as they see fit, over a period of time that suits an existing career (& family life perhaps).
Applicant Criteria
We ask that all potential instructors firstly join their local BAKM school & make it known to the Chief Instructor upon joining the school that they are interested in becoming an instructor. The Chief Instructor (along with other instructors) will then observe you in class & if they feel that you have the ability will invite you to join certain specialist seminars for advanced & instructor levels only.
Please note that applicants should be aware that if we decide for whatever reason that an applicant is unsuited for training or to be a valid representative of BAKM then admission to, or, continuation of training will be cancelled immediately & this could be because you have failed a criminal records check for example.
Cost
To start with there is no cost above the normal student membership fee apart from when you are invited to attend any instructor / specialist seminars or you get to the point that you wish to set up your own school (which will be a minimum of 1 to 3 years later).
Once you have your own school then of course there are charges but these will only be taken from students upon joining, (so if your not successful, then we will not be successful either).
Duration
On average we see anything from 1 to 3 years + before apprentice instructors have the necessary fighting skills, grade, confidence & experience to teach a basic KM class confidently from start to finish by themselves.
We say 1 to 3 years because in very exceptional cases we have seen apprentices move faster as they have either had previous experience in Krav Maga or have cross trained the school Krav Maga training with other systems such as Boxing, Muay Thai Kick Boxing, K1 Kick Boxing, Judo, Wrestling & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for example.
Benefits
1. Skills Development
As an aspiring instructor you will be invited to train privately on occasion with a senior instructor (usually the Chief Instructor) several times a year. These sessions are strictly for instructor’s & trainee instructors only and are designed to help you progress through the school curriculum more quickly.
As you work through your grades your training requirements will change & we will adapt the training to suit this, with variations on teaching methodologies & reviews of alternative techniques not normally shown in the school curriculum.
2. In Class Training
In class we like to aid apprentice instructors progression by giving them individual teaching tasks or small groups to take aside and teach during the class itself. Within this, the size of the group and the range of techniques to be taught increases as we see the apprentice instructors experience grow.
3. Shadowing Experience
You may attend (having paid the appropriate fee) any of the specialist seminars that are run in the school ranging from the following: private or corporate (with permission from the group or individual being trained), self defence for women, defence against edged weapon, knife, stick or gun (both long & short arm).
4. Ongoing Support & Advice
You will receive ongoing advice on how best to progress your KM career. We will sit down on a regular basis and review a Krav Maga instructor development plan.
5. Personal Profile
Having worked with you extensively, we will be able to provide you with a personal reference once you are ready to set up your own classes or school.
6. Certification
We consider students as valid school instructors once they have reached blue belt & passed the in-house instructor assessment. Upon passing you will receive a British Academy of Krav Maga teaching certificate that is recognised by The British Combat Association.
7. Web Presence
Once qualified your details will be added to the academy website: www.krav-maga.org.uk. This website has constantly maintained a high ranking within all major search engines & has provided over 99% of all revenue in regards to private, corporate & school tuition.
8. Territorial Coverage
Should you wish to set up your own class or school we will then ensure that we do not impede your growth potential by having simple territorial rules that mean that no other BAKM qualified instructor can set up a class or school in the same area.
The is calculated on the socioeconomic demographics & populace per square kilometre of where you wish to operate from in comparison to your nearest competing BAKM instructor.
This does not, however, guarantee that other Krav Maga organisations will not encourage their instructors to operate in your chosen area, as take it from us - they will !
9. Employment Opportunities
Qualified instructors who have impressed are invited to join schools as paid class instructors. Opportunities are also available for 1-2-1 training, private groups, seminars & corporate tuition. For those instructors with full time jobs this seems to work well with some instructors taking this option prior to setting up their own school or regular class.
10. Ongoing Training
As an instructor you will then be invited to instructor only seminars. These seminars are designed to enhance your combative abilities with experts in specific fields being invited to coach & deliver these seminars to you. These courses (unfortunately) have to be paid for by yourself.
11. Free Grading Assessment
As a member of BAKM you are given your next grade when we feel you deserve it and not as a consequence of payment. Assessment for each grade consists of a review of your technical ability (techniques testing) & assessment of applying these techniques under pressure.
How do I Enroll?
Enrolling on this course is simple.
As previously described, just join the school like any other aspiring student (attend a trial class or sign up to membership straight away) & make mention of the fact that you are interested in becoming an instructor. You will then be observed in training & based upon this we will then decide whether or not you can join the scheme.
We apologise if we offend here but we have to ensure that aspiring instructors will make the grade & we would rather we were straight with you about this, rather than on the other hand simply taking your money & training you, knowing full well that you have not quite got what it takes to teach & thereby retain students going forward.
